Boss VG-800: Explore mountains of electric and acoustic guitar, sitar and banjo sounds
NAMM 2025: Boss has begun unveiling its fresh product offerings ahead of this year’s NAMM Show, and first up is the VG-800 V-Guitar Processor, a new amp modeller and effects processor that promises to emulate the sound of a wealth of stringed instruments, explore alternate tunings at the push of a button, and loads more.
The term ‘V-Guitar’ was first introduced by Roland – Boss’s parent company – in 1995, but the latest Boss product to don the V-Guitar name showcases the enormous strides made by guitar modelling as of 2025.

Boasting a Serial GK divided pickup, the VG-800 is able to recreate a host of electric and acoustic guitar sounds, basses, and other instruments including the sitar and banjo. Users can also play synth tones, including a “spot-on” recreation of Roland’s GR-300 from the early ‘80s.

And even more impressive, users can assign different strings on their guitar to trigger different instrument emulations. This enables the playing of different instruments simultaneously, as well as B-Bender style tunings via the unit’s pitch adjustment capabilities.
The VG-800 also comes with a healthy load of presets and memory slots, as well as customisation tools which include string behaviours, instrument style, pickup position, resonance, and more.
The unit also acts as a USB audio/MIDI interface, and allows you to record two modelled instruments – as well as your direct signal – at the same time, and to separate tracks within your DAW. It’s even possible to “re-guitar” your dry signal back through the VG-800.
Additionally, users can make the most of Boss’s Tone Studio on MacOS and Windows to edit memory slots, adjust system settings, import speaker IRs, and manage setups for different playing applications.
The VG-800 will be available from February for $649.99. For more information, head to Boss.
