BOSS SDE-3: The iconic SDE-3000 delay favoured by legends like Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai now comes in a compact format

BOSS has unveiled the SDE-3 Dual Digital Delay, a modern reinterpretation of the legendary Roland SDE-3000 rackmount delay.
Originally launched in 1983, the SDE-3000 has long been revered for its musical character and versatility. The unit quickly found its way onto the stage racks of artists like Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai, where it remained a permanent fixture for much of their careers.

The latest member of BOSS’s compact pedal series brings the authentic SDE-3000 vibe to a streamlined, pedalboard-friendly package. The SDE-3’s efficient panel provides the primary controls of its vintage benchmark — including delay time, feedback, and independent rate and depth knobs for the modulation — along with additional knobs for you to expand your sound.

You can explore retro single delays and ’80s-style mod/delay combos. Or tweak the mod and high-cut controls to conjure moody, atmospheric tonalities for ambient, chill, and lo-fi music.
Along with reproducing the SDE-3000’s original mono sound, the pedal features a powerful Offset knob to create interesting tones with two simultaneous delays. With one simple control, you can instantly add a second delay to the primary delay for a wealth of mono and stereo colours.
Additionally, there are two stereo modes for you to choose between discrete left/right delays and a panning option for ultra-wide sounds that move across the stereo field. The pedal also provides output configurations to suit any stage or studio scenario.

Dry and effect-only signals can be sent to two amps for wet/dry setups, and the direct sound can be muted for studio mixing and parallel effect rigs.
The SDE-3 also offers numerous control options to enhance live and studio performances. Tap tempo mode is available with a press and hold of the pedal switch, while the TRS MIDI input can be used to sync the delay time with clock signals from DAWs, pedals, and drum machines. Players can connect external footswitches for on-demand access to tap tempo and a ‘hold’ function for on-the-fly looping. An expression jack is also included for you to control a wide array of parameters.

The SDE-3 Dual Digital Delay is priced at $219. Learn more at BOSS.
