Black Breath bassist Elijah Nelson dies
Elijah Nelson, bassist for Seattle death metal band Black Breath, died over the Christmas weekend. He was 40. The news was confirmed by close friends and associates, although the cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Black Breath helped lead the charge of American hardcore and metal revival in Stockholm, Sweden over the past decade. The band has been mostly dormant of late, with their most recent album being 2015’s Slaves Beyond Death and their last performance taking place in Vancouver, BC in 2016.
A number of artists have paid tribute to Nelson in the wake of his death. Now-defunct Swedish death-grind band Nasum posted on Facebook, writing “We are obviously saddened by the news of Elijah Nelson’s passing. Black Breath were very important to Nasum during the final leg of the farewell tour. Elijah was the Cliff Burton of death metal and he will be missed.
Californian hardcore thrash outfit Ringworm wrote “Ringworm sends nothing but light and love to you and yours brother. Enlightened travels in the beyond, young wizard,” on their Facebook page.
