Are we about to see a new version of the iconic Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier?
It’s a new day and Gibson President and CEO Cesar Gueikian has once again got the guitar community talking by teasing a “top secret” dual Mesa amp on his Instagram account.
The executive recently posted a video of him ripping through some wicked riffs on a Kramer electric guitar, alongside the caption: “E-Kramering in my office with a top secret Dual Mesa amp.”

Gueikian’s post has sparked speculation about the possible return of the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, a guitar amplifier often hailed as the definitive amp that shaped rock music in the ’90s. Many bands, including Foo Fighters, Metallica, Blink-182, Alice In Chains and Limp Bizkit, used Dual Rectifier amps or Dual Rectifier-family amps in their rigs back then.

Originally launched in 1992, the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier has undergone numerous facelifts over the years to adapt to the evolving needs of guitarists, including shifting from a two-channel amp aimed squarely at high gain to a three-channel amp in 2000.
In 2021, the boutique brand was officially acquired by Gibson, with legendary founder Randall Smith staying on as lead amp designer until his departure this August.
“I am incredibly grateful for Randy’s pioneering insights, design, and trust in Gibson,” Gueikian said in a tribute to Smith. “Randy’s DNA will always be present, and over the last few decades he has trained the new generation of designers that have been leading the way for Gibson and MESA/Boogie amps. As we evolve our Gibson Amps collection, including our Gibson and MESA/Boogie brands, Randy, and his original design ideas, will continue to inspire us to make the best and highest quality amplifiers we’ve ever made.”
