“Save us all”: Fans react as The 1975 announced as Glastonbury headliners
A slew of acts have been announced for Glastonbury 2025, and joining Neil Young as headliners will be The 1975 on the Friday night and Olivia Rodrigo on the Sunday.
While the festival’s pop contingent is strong this year – with the likes of RAYE, Grammy winner Charli XCX and Doechii set to perform – guitar-based artists remain a strong presence at the festival, with highlights including Biffy Clyro, Franz Ferdinand, St. Vincent, Deftones and more.

While stalwarts of Glastonbury – having performed at the festival three times in the past – 2025 marks The 1975’s first slot as headliners.
The 1975 are a divisive name, driven mostly by the antics of frontman Matty Healy. Never one to mince words, Healy has previously sparked outrage by making controversial comments during podcast appearances, and was called out for doing so at Glastonbury in 2023 by his Dirty Hit label mate Rina Sawayama.
And back in 2023, Healy made headlines when he shared a kiss with bandmate Ross MacDonald during The 1975’s set at the Good Vibes festival in Malaysia, a country with strict Islamic laws prohibiting homosexuality.
Healy also made an impassioned speech protesting said laws, and the band had their set cut short, and were subsequently ejected from Malaysia. The festival was also cancelled after the controversy.
But their troubles didn’t stop there; Healy and co thereafter faced a class-action lawsuit from festival organisers, artists and vendors, who sought to claim lost earnings as a result of the festival’s cancellation.
As expected, The 1975’s announcement as 2025 Glastonbury headliners has sparked some pushback on social media. On the festival’s Instagram post, one user facetiously asks, “Are the headliners being announced later?” to which another replies, “The 1975 cracked me up, if they’re a headliner save us all.”
