This is the likelihood Slayer will release a new album, according to Kerry King
People aren’t giving up hope that one day Slayer will make a full return, as Kerry King has been asked once again if there is any chance we’ll ever get a new album from the retired thrash metal band.
Slayer decided to step away from the stage in 2019 though they did briefly reunite for three festival shows in 2024, and are set to play Louder Than Life this September. They are also set for a special set at Black Sabbath’s final show in Birmingham, UK. Among the one-off shows, King has of course been busy with his new solo band, having released his debut solo album, From Hell I Rise, last May.

With his own band – formed of vocalist Mark Osegueda of Death Angel, Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, and Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph – King plans to keep the momentum going and focus on new music plans with them, as opposed to creating anything new with Slayer.
Speaking on the Talk Louder Podcast when asked if a Slayer album could be a possibility, King says (via Blabbermouth), “I can 99.9 percent give you a ‘no’ on that one because I have a new outlet to present music to the fans, and I just put these guys [in my solo band] together. I’m not gonna abandon them.”
Despite some backlash Slayer faced for their reunion festival dates, King saw them as a “celebration”. He previously told Metal Roos, “Say a kid was 10 years old when we retired. Now he’s 15, 16. [It’s his] first opportunity to see us. I think that’s important.”
He added, “[I thought] ‘this is gonna be really cool for the fans, and it’ll be good to see the guys,’” he remembers. “That’s about all I gave it. But then we actually played the show and a handful more shows, and I said, ‘You know what? This is really cool for me!’ I didn’t expect that.”
Kerry King is on tour now, and tickets remain available.
