Polyphia fans will know Tim Henson’s penchant for both rapid-fire electric guitar runs and intricate classical guitar lines, too. That’s why the virtuoso has partnered with Ernie Ball on two new sets of strings – an electric guitar set and a classical guitar set.
The classical guitar strings combine fluorocarbon trebles with silver-plated copper bass strings for a brighter response and stronger attack, while the electric guitar strings use Ernie Ball’s Cobalt and Paradigm core wire technologies for “maximum output and clarity with unmatched durability”.
In terms of gauges, the Classical Strings set comes with 24, 27, 33, 30, 36, 42 gauges, while the Electric Strings are 9.5, 12, 16, 26, 36, 46. These strings will be available in spring 2025.

Promising to offer “effortless playability and exceptional tone”, these Smoothie Flats Bass Strings – designed in collaboration with bassist Pino Palladino (The Who, Gary Numan, David Gilmour, D’Angelo) – are crafted with a cobalt alloy ribbon, and are precision polished for an “ultra-smooth feel”. They come in two gauge configurations – Extra Light (38, 54, 68, 98), and Medium (43, 61, 76, 108) – and are available this coming spring.

And last but not least, Ernie Ball has partnered with John Mayer on a new set of Earthwood Bell Bronze acoustic guitar strings, “carefully crafted to meet John’s exacting standards”. They are made using EB’s patent-pending Bell Bronze alloy, which offers a “richer, fuller sound than any other string” in Ernie Ball’s catalogue. This alloy is inspired by alloys used for bells and cymbals.
“Earthwood Bell Bronze strings are a giant leap forward in tone, playability, and durability,” says John Mayer. “They’re great in any musical setting but really shine when played solo. There’s an orchestral quality to them.”
These strings are available in four gauge combinations: Extra Light (10-50), Light (11-52), Medium Light (12-54), and Medium (13-56), and are available this spring.
