“I don’t want to piss my fans off”: Sammy Hagar says he never wants to go on tour again
After 50 years of performing in Van Halen, Montrose and now fronting the Best Of All Worlds supergroup, it’s fair to say Sammy Hagar has had one hell of a career. Understandably, he’s starting to tire out.
While the Best Of All Worlds unit are set for a nine-show Las Vegas residency at Park MGM this spring, Hagar has admitted that he no longer wants to tour. “I don’t think I want to go on tour anymore,” he admits to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I hate to say that, because I don’t want to piss my fans off!”

“I’ll go out and do a one-off show and do things like that,” he clarifies. “But the residency is going to give me a good extension of my career. That’s what I’m hoping for.”
As he’s gotten older, travelling for tour has started to take its toll. In Hagar’s mind, the residency is the perfect way to perform without the hassle of travelling. “With this, I don’t have to travel, I don’t have to unpack and pack and get on an aeroplane every day,” he says.
“You know, at my age, it hurts my shoulders to do all this!” he adds. “And I have to perform. I’m a performer, at the end of the day.”
Last year, the Best Of All Worlds gang tacked 33-dates across the globe. The unit was originally comprised of Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham teaming up to play Van Halen classics. Bonham pulled out of the last four dates to care for his mother, with Kenny Aronoff taking over on drums. Despite wanting to re-join the ranks, Bonham was ultimately replaced by Aronoff for good.
Hagar promises that the Las Vegas residency will have even more deep Van Halen cuts. There’s also set to be more Montrose and Chickenfoot tracks, too.
When announcing their residency, Hagar noted that the run will allow the band to fine-tune the show for fans. “I’m so looking forward to this residency and being able to stay in one place so we can get the sound and production completely dialled in,” he explains (via Consequence).
“It allows the band to experiment with the setlist every night… instead of travelling all day on tour when there’s no time to rehearse and make changes,” he teases. “The fans are in for a lot of surprises.”
In an interview with The Bogus Otis Show podcast, Hagar was certain that the supergroup would write new music together. When probed about the idea of a new album, he simply said: “I guarantee it,” he said.
The Best Of All Worlds Tour – The Residency will kick off on 30 April, running until 17 May.
