Joe Satriani and Steve Vai unite to form The SATCHVAI Band – touring kicks off this summer
For the first time in their nearly 50-year careers, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have joined forces to form their own band. As The SATCHVAI Band, the duo will embark on a tour across the UK and Europe in summer 2025, and have plans to release new music.
Satriani and Vai, along with each of their respective bands, initially teamed up for their first-ever tour together last spring. The stint marked their first run of shows outside of Satriani’s G3 tour format, but now, the pair have decided it’s finally time to form their own outfit together.

This past year, Satriani has formed part of Sammy Hagar’s Best of All Worlds Tour, which celebrates the music of Van Halen, while Vai has been playing shows across the US as part of the BEAT tour – a tribute to King Crimson.
This new band is a rather full-circle project in their respective careers, given that Satriani served as Vai’s guitar teacher when they were teenagers. Named as the Surfing With The Hydra tour, their live shows will kick off at the Barbican in York in June 2025, with dates continuing through to mid July. The stint follows on from their first musical collaboration, The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1, which debuted in March. Their second collaboration is set to be released just before the tour.
“The SATCHVAI Band Tour is happening! I’m so looking forward to sharing the stage with Steve again,” comments Satriani. “Every time we play together, it takes me back to when we were teenagers, eating and breathing music every second of the day, pushing, challenging, and helping each other to be the best we could be. I guess we’ve never stopped!”
Vai adds, “Touring with Joe is always a pleasure and an honour. He is my favorite guitarist to jam with, and now we have another opportunity to take it to the stage. I feel as though we are both at the top of our game, and the show will be a powerful celebration of the coolest instrument in the world, the electric guitar!”
