The Taylor Swift guitar bought and smashed at a recent auction has sold again – for a higher price than before
Remember the Taylor Swift guitar that was sold for $4,000 – and promptly smashed – at a recent auction in Texas? Well, the guitar in question, crushed bits and all, has been sold once again on eBay. And at a higher price at that.
Last month, Texas man Gary Estes purchased the supposedly autographed guitar at a charity auction during the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner. As he went onstage to collect his prize, Estes grabbed a hammer from the auction staff and tore into the six-string.

The moment has since gone viral online, though Estes later explained to NBC that the move had simply been a “joke” and that “there was nothing malicious” behind it. It was later revealed that he had not been pleased with Swift’s endorsement of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for President.

Per TMZ, the popstar’s guitar sold for $6,550 after Estes donated the instrument back to the nonprofit foundation. A description on the listing read, “Man bought this signed Taylor Swift Guitar at a charity auction for $4000, then proceeded to smash it with a hammer. The video went viral on multiple platforms worldwide.”
“He has donated the guitar back to the foundation to be sold on eBay, with proceeds going to local kids that need the resources to participate in agriculture educational programs.”
Notably, while the guitar was advertised as having been ‘signed’ by Swift, a source from the artist’s merchandising company has denied the claim.
In other news, country legend Keith Urban recently spoke about seeing Swift’s potential when she opened for him during his 2009 tour.
“What she is now, she was that, when she was opening for me,” says the musician. “Her vision was way off into the future… She sees where she’s going to be, crystal clear. And that’s the kind of thing that helped her navigate through so many waters that would have killed any other artist.”
