Are Radiohead going to be the next ’90s icons to reunite? Bassist claims the band “did some rehearsals about two months ago”

It’s been over eight years since the last Radiohead album, but could the art rockers be planning some new material?
According to bassist Colin Greenwood, the band had some rehearsals in London over the summer. Greenwood was speaking in a digital interview at Mexico’s Hay Festival on Sunday (8 September) to promote his new photo book, How To Disappear: A Photographic Portrait Of Radiohead, which is made up of photos he took of the band between 2003 and 2016, and will be released on 15 October.

He shares in the interview, which you can watch here: “We did some rehearsals about two months ago in London, just played the old songs, and it was really fun. I had a really good time.”
The band last released A Moon Shaped Pool, their ninth album, in May 2016, and haven’t been on tour together since 2018. They had planned to tour together in 2021, but had to abandon the plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Greenwood’s brother, guitarist Jonny – who earlier this year was hospitalised with a serious infection and required a stay in intensive care – told The Guardian in May that the band members were busy working on their own projects, with he and frontman Thom Yorke touring with their side project The Smile, Colin playing with Nick Cave, and fellow guitarist Ed O’Brien making a second solo album. Earlier this year, Yorke shared his second film soundtrack, Confidenza, too.
He said at the time, “We’re still talking all the time, we just need to make a plan and get some time together sorted out in advance. I’ve never been very good at that. Too busy dicking around in this studio.”

In November, drummer Philip Selway said on a live stream with The Crow Hill Company that the band could be “coming back around to that point” of getting back together, while in 2017 Yorke told Rolling Stone, “I would imagine we’ll keep going. I mean, I don’t know how, or when, but no, we’re not gonna stop. I fucking hope not.”
