FINNEAS says he and Billie Eilish sometimes “bicker” about guitar technique: “Her number one piece of feedback is to be quieter… She wants that super-tender thing”

Songwriter and producer FINNEAS has shared that he and his sister, pop artist Billie Eilish, will sometimes bicker about guitar when it comes to technique.
The unstoppable sibling duo have written huge hits together, from Bad Guy to Ocean Eyes, leading FINNEAS to earn his own signature Acoustasonic Telecaster model with Fender – the very first of its kind.

It seems the pair also learn a lot from each other while working together, with Eilish often putting her case forward for softer strumming. In an upcoming interview with Guitar World, FINNEAS shares how he’s helped her to further expand her guitar skills on his new model.
“Billie has spent less time playing guitar, and I often teach her how to play the songs on the Acoustasonic because it’ll be easier for her to get the chord shapes down and practice on it,” he shares. “I also always try to get her to play as much as she’s willing to on our records because, even though she feels like she’s less experienced, I really like her sensibilities.”
Eilish released her latest record, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT last May. One track in particular which relies on a spine of guitar is WILDFLOWER. FINNEAS says for this track especially, Eilish wanted soft and deft strums on guitar.
“Her number one piece of feedback is to be quieter,” he admits. “She’s a big fan of me thumbing stuff. Oftentimes, it’s not even between an actual pick or me strumming. She’s like, ‘I want the thumb!’ She wants that super, super-tender thing.
“Then, sometimes, we bicker and maybe I win. With WILDFLOWER specifically, I remember that was a case where I was strumming a certain way and she wanted it way quieter. I said, ‘I think that this strumming is really effective for this song. We’ll turn it down and it’ll be great, but it has a lot of rhythm in it.’”

HIT ME HARD AND SOFT is available to stream or buy now. You can also check out FINNEAS’ Signature Acoustasonic over at Fender.
