David Gilmour says it’s his “dream” to sell the Pink Floyd catalogue “to be rid of the decision making and arguments”
According to David Gilmour, discussions around a potential sale of Pink Floyd’s catalogue are still ongoing.
The legendary English rock band made headlines back in 2022 when original reports of sale discussions began, though these later allegedly hit a wall “due to ‘infighting’ within the band”. Gilmour, who played guitar for the outfit and is releasing a new solo record this September, says he is still hoping a sale will go ahead.

Given that Gilmour has spent the last 30 years making music with his wife Polly Samson, and feuding on and off with former bandmate Roger Waters, it seems he is well and truly done with Pink Floyd drama.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in an interview on his new record, titled Luck and Strange, Gilmour is asked about the rumours on a supposed catalogue sale: “Is it something that is still in discussion, yeah,” he says.
“To be rid of the decision making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going is my dream. If things were different… and I am not interested in that from a financial standpoint. I’m only interested in it from getting out of the mud bath that it has been for quite a while.”
When it is suggested to Gilmour that it’s likely challenging to get three “yes” votes for anything at this point, he responds, “Well, that’s not actually the way it’s worked. It works on a veto system. You could say it’s three people saying yes, but one person saying no.”
Gilmour and Floyd drummer Nick Mason did however revive the Pink Floyd name in 2022 to release Hey, Hey, Rise Up! for Ukraine amid ongoing conflict with Russia. Later in the interview, Gilmour adds that he wouldn’t write-off another project like this one: “It’s a strange old world we live in, and on there are things that crop up in life that you feel you have to do something about, and have to do something about now. And you might as well use what you’ve earned through your life to benefit causes that you believe in. So I never say never,” he states.
David Gilmour’s Luck and Strange arrives on 6 September. You can pre-order it now.
