“Zero interest. F**king Boring”: Scott Ian says new Anthrax album will have nothing to do with American politics
Anthrax are currently working on their 12th studio album, but don’t expect it to have anything to do with American politics.
In a conversation in the new issue of Metal Hammer, guitarist Scott Ian and drummer Charlie Benante discuss the status of the record, which is yet to receive an official release date.

“As of right now, we have 13 or 14 songs,” says Benante. “They’re not all going to make the record, but we know which are.”
Ian adds that “none of the songs are actually finished-finished”, leading us to suspect we’ll be waiting a little while longer for the album’s release. He continues: “Joey’s [Belladonna, vocalist] sang on nine of them. I’ve got lyrics to write for four of them. I think all the songs will be good enough to come out in some way, shape or form.”
Asked whether any songs on the album will be about the ever-tumultuous state of American politics in 2024, Scott Ian shuts down the idea right away.
“Zero interest. Boring, boring, fucking boring,” he says. “I don’t want an Anthrax album to be a fucking CNN bulletin. Bottom line is, I want this to be fun and entertain people. All this arguing about politics and whose god is best… Fuck this shit. Just shut the fuck up and bang your head.”
Back in November, Anthrax teased that they’d been recording in the studio with Foo Fighters.
Sharing photos on Instagram of themselves alongside members of the Dave Grohl-led rock juggernaut, the band captioned: “New album is going to be awesome. #FooThrax”

On recording at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in LA, Scott Ian recalls: “It’s a bit of a Foo Fighters and Nirvana museum, but it’s awesome. It’s like being in the most rock clubhouse ever, but it’s also inspiring being surrounded by the success of somebody who has only ever done it ‘cause he fucking loves to do it.”
