Squier unveils new ‘Fender Special Run’ Esquire models with double-bound finishes
Squier has launched a new Fender Special Run (FSR) Classic Vibe Esquire model, taking a modern and affordable twist on the single-pickup electric guitar.

The new FSR Esquire comes in three finishes, all of which sport double aged white binding, outlining both the front and back of the guitar’s body. You can choose between either black, three-tone sunburst or Lake Placid Blue.
Across the three finishes, the rest of the specs are consistent. There’s a nato wood body with a bolt-on maple neck, finished in an amber-tinted gloss. The Indian laurel fretboards’ radius measures 9.5 inches, with 21 narrow-tall frets and a 25.5-inch scale.
The bridge is a three-saddle vintage-style hardtail, complete with the plate that holds the guitar’s only pickup: a Fender-designed alnico single coil. The bridge also allows for string-through or top-loading.
The electronics layout is true to the original Esquires, with a volume, tone and three-way selector switch mounted in a metal control plate. While there’s obviously no neck pickup to change to with the selector switch, it allows you to remove the tone pot from the circuit to deliver a brighter sound, or engage a more filtered sound.
The guitars list for £379, and are available to preorder through Fender / Squier dealers now. No official information about the guitars has been released directly through Fender, however.
