Never-before-seen Nirvana photos have surfaced online
Never-before-seen photographs of Nirvana’s second-ever show in the UK have surfaced online.
The snaps were shared by photographer Richard Davis, who attended the band’s show at the Manchester Polytechnic Students Union on 24 October 1989. The gig happened roughly four months after the release of Nirvana’s first full-length, Bleach.

Davis initially thought the photo negatives had been stolen, until he unearthed them at home last October.
“For years I was convinced that someone had nicked the negatives,” he explained to the Manchester Evening News. “But about two months ago I was going through my kids’ stuff and found it among the old primary school photos. I looked at it and thought ‘Oh my God, I thought I’d lost them’.”
Davis announced on Facebook yesterday (4 January) that he’ll be selling prints of his photos. Each is priced at £60 apiece, with each photo limited to 50 copies.
Last month (10 December), Guitar.com spoke to famed Nirvana producer Butch Vig on the guitar recordings featured on the band’s second full-length, the diamond-selling Nevermind.
“We only used a couple of pedals. Kurt had a Big Muff. And I think I had a Russian Big Muff, which is, you know, very close,” Vig said. “And he had a RAT. And then he had a Small Clone, which is sort of the watery effect on Teen Spirit in the verses. Come As You Are as well. But that was it; a pretty simple setup, really.”
