Korg USA acquires celebrated bass brand Aguilar Amplification
Aguilar Amplification, the brand best known for its bass amplifiers and pedals, has been sold to Korg USA.
Guitar.com has obtained an email from Aguilar to its retail partners sent today (5 January) that announced the acquisition. According to the email, the company has renamed itself to Aguilar Musical Instruments LLC as of 1 January 2021.
Aguilar’s factory address in New York and staff will remain unchanged, and orders will continue to be fulfilled under the same procedures.
Aguilar president – and all-round bass wizard – Dave Boonshoft will be staying on as a consultant leading product development.
In the email, Dave Avenius, Aguilar’s managing director, called the acquisition “the next chapter in Aguilar history”.
“Aguilar Amplification has spent the last 25 years designing legacy products and continually raising the bar for the bass guitar world,” he wrote. “To help us take the brand to the next level we have decided to sell the company to Korg USA, one of the most well-respected businesses in our industry.”
We have reached out to both Korg USA and Aguilar for comment. More on this story to follow.
Last year, Aguilar celebrated its 25th anniversary with the launch of a special, clean silver run of all its pedals.
