John Prine in stable condition following hospitalization from COVID-19
Singer-songwriter John Prine is now in stable condition following his hospitalisation for COVID-19. Despite this, he remains on breathing-assistance and continues to be treated for the coronavirus.
On 31 March, John Prine’s wife, Fiona Whelan Prine shared that she has “recovered from COVID-19”. She then provides an update on her husband’s current condition, saying that “He is [stable]”. Read the full Tweet here:
I have recovered from Covid-19. We are humbled by the outpouring of love for me and John and our precious family. He is stabile. Please continue to send your amazing Love and prayers. Sing his songs. Stay home and wash hands. John loves you. I love you

In a follow-up Tweet, she further clarifies that although her husband is now in stable condition, it “is not the same as improving”.
I need to clarify what I mean by “John is stable”. That is not the same as improving. There is no cure for Covid-19. He needs our prayers and love – as do the thousands of others who are critically ill. Stay at home. Wash your hands. We love you.

John Prine was hospitalised on 26 March following a “sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms”. Three days later, he was reported to be in critical condition by his family in a Facebook post.
Since his hospitalisation, the two-time cancer survivor has received a number of musical-tributes and well wishes from friends and peers in the industry.
Folk icon Joan Baez recently shared a performance of Prine’s Hello In There. In her video she addressed Prine directly. “John, this song I have sung of yours has been one of the most requested songs in my repertoire for over 40 years.” she says, “let me sing it to you and send [it] along with my best wishes and prayers”.
