NAMM 2020: Ashdown Engineering announces huge NAMM release
NAMM 2020: Ashdown Engineering has announced a slew of new releases for Winter NAMM 2020, including a bevy of new amps, pedals, basses and more.
Combo Amps
Ashdown Studio Range
Ashdown Studio 15The latest Studio Range comprises the Studio 15, Studio 12, Studio 10 and Studio 8 combo amps. All four models feature responsibly-sourced poplar-ply wood which provides a lightweight yet durable structure for the amp enclosure. This series of amps also features a five-band EQ, similar to the one found on Ashdown’s Rootmaster and OriginAL series. Additional features include a re-designed foot switchable valve emulated overdrive as well as an FX Loop and balanced XLR DI output.
Amp Cabinets
ABM Evo IV Pro Neo
ABM Evo IV Pro Neo 1 x 15″The ABM Evo IV Pro Neo features the all-new poplar-ply wood in the cabinet enclosure and the new Blue Line Prop Neo neodymium speakers. This new range of bass-specific cabinets are available in three configurations: a 1×12”, 1×15” and a 2×10”.
Pedalboard Amps
The Ant
Built for bassists who require a lightweight tone solution, the Ant is a 200W amp that fits most pedalboards. A three-band EQ and Ashdown Shape control allow users to mould their bass tone however they see fit. The Ant can also be plugged directly to the front of house using the on-board transformer-balanced DI output.
The Newt
The Newt is basically a guitarist’s version of the Ant, offering the same three-band EQ for tone-shaping purposes and an on-board transformer-balanced DI output. Pedalboard-based guitarists can also flatten the Newt’s EQ settings and use it as a neutral platform for mounting your effects or profiling system.
Amp Heads
Rootmaster Evo II 300 and Evo II 800

Ashdown RM 800 EVO II
Ashdown has upgraded its Evo II series of amp heads by making them lighter and adding two new models to the series – the Evo II 300 and Evo II 800. The Rootmaster’s preamp now includes a passive and active input jack socket for use with high and low output instruments, an upgraded power section and a mute button. Standard features like the Shape button, five-band EQ and on-board compressor make their return, as do footswitch-able drive and sub-harmonic controls.
The OriginAL – 500J
The OriginAL amp head has been upgraded to offer bassists 500W of power. Players will still be able to use Ashdown’s trademark VU meter to fine-tune their input level, before using the amp’s five-band EQ and Shape control to enhance their tone. Other features of the OriginAL include an easy-to-reach DI output, independent FX send and return, and a headphone out for silent practice.
Rack heads
ABM Evo IV Dual VU Rack Head
The enhanced ABM Evo IV Dual VU Rack Head features an upgraded Variable Valve Preamp that delivers more current to the 12AX7 tube for increased drive and harmonic content. The drive level can be pre-set and engaged/disengaged via a footswitch, providing on-tap access to both clean and overdriven tones. Other notable features making their return are Ashdown’s One Knob Dynamic Compressor and the ABM Sub-Harmonic generator.
CTM-200R All Valve Rack Head
Ashdown CTM 200RThe new CTM-200R All Valve Head occupies the middle ground between the tube-driven CTM-100 and CTM-300. The amp is hand-built and -finished in England and comes with a tube complement of four KT-88 tubes in the output section, along with the preamp section consisting of two ECC-832, two ECC-82 and one ECC-91. Likewise, the CTM-200R’s transformer is also hand-wound in England using the same factory. The CTM-200R also comes with an adjustable bias for all four power tubes to help prolong tube life.
