Win! A One-Off Haynes Electric!
Last month, we travelled to the workshop of UK luthier Guitar & Bass Build in Oxfordshire.
Neil Haynes’ company offers a wide array of services – from blanks and templates for budding builders to bespoke bodies and necks for DIY projects. But the jewels in the crown are the fully featured custom instruments that Neil and his team build under the banner of Haynes Guitars.
While we were there, we also set Neil a challenge – to create a one-off custom-build guitar design different to the usual instruments that he makes. Haynes rose to that challenge, and we’re giving one lucky The Guitar Magazine reader the chance to win the resulting instrument!
The basic brief was simple. We wanted an instrument inspired by the classic non-reverse Firebird chassis, but for Neil and the team to put their unique spin on it.
At its core, the guitar sports a two-piece American swamp ash body with three-piece quarter-sawn 10-year master grade African sapele mahogany neck, plus a Santos rosewood fingerboard. The body is finished in a thin-coat polyurethane finish that’s TV Yellow with an antique amber burst around the edges, blending into dark cherry red on the neck.
Things are equally high-end in the hardware stakes with Gotoh 381 tuners and a wrapover bridge, while the guitar’s electrics call on the services of two of the UK’s best after-market specialists. So, the wiring harness comes courtesy of James’ Home Of Tone, complete with two Jupiter Vintage Yellow Tone 0.02uF capacitors. The pickups, meanwhile, are a pair of House Of Tone Special P-90s with black metal covers.
Visit www.haynesguitars.co.uk for more, but first, to be in with a chance of winning this £2,995 custom electric, simply answer the following question…
