NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Days! NYNGD #2017-14

.
Welcome to Day 14 of my annual New Year’s New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

Thanks for the kind words and comments on yesterday’s NYNGD #2017-13!

OK. The Final FourTM.

Today’s NYNGD is a revelation for me, even though it’s the most “classic” of this year’s guitars. This stunning Cutlass SSS in an amazing one-off Diamond Blue finish with a one-off pearloid pickguard and a to-die-for roasted maple neck.

The reason I’m so excited by this guitar, besides its good looks and great sound, is that this guitar broke me out of a LONG rut. This guitar is just DIFFERENT — it’s larger than any of my other EBMMs, and thus changes the feel, and it’s my first passive SSS guitar (yes, I have a SSS Silo Special, but it’s got EMGs and is a whole different world).

The first time I played the twin of this guitar (Derek also has a Diamond Blue SSS — albiet with a plain white pickguard) I plugged into an early 70s Plexi Marshall and sat for about an hour just playing… and in the entire hour not one note I played was from my rut — this guitar changed WHAT I played and HOW I played. Just super inspiring.

And the setup on this thing? This action is WAAAY lower than any Str@t ever was. And it’s quiet even under gain.

I’ll admit, when EBMM first did the Cutlass and the Stingray “Modern Classics”, I thought to myself, “Ugh. Why is the company who did the Bongo and the Majesty and the St. Vincent going backwards?” Well, now I TOTALLY get it. Larger headstock, more standard sized body, classic features, but the “Modern” part of “Modern Classic” means it works 1000% better than those old guitars — this is the guitar that brings the “traditional” guy into the EBMM fold — and once they’re here they ain’t going back. This isn’t backwards — it’s straight forward like a rocket!

I cannot recommend this guitar more highly — go to your EBMM dealer and try one today! And if you’re a humbucker guy, TRY THE SSS! You will be shocked at what it does for you!

I’ll be back tomorrow with another NYNGD: New Year’s New Guitar Day!

Thanks for looking everyone!

(The back story in case you’re new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I’ve done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date… So, as a fun holiday thing, let’s launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I’ve received PM’s about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. 🙂 The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas — these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house…)
